Structural Correction

Structural Vs. Traditional Chiropractic

To understand how our office differs from others, let’s explore what traditional chiropractic offers.

Traditional chiropractic concentrates on TEMPORARILY:

  • Increasing range of motion
  • Alleviating muscle tension and spasm
  • Relieving of pain

To us, these are great outcomes and we know many patients that have regained their active life as a result of traditional chiropractic care.

However, traditional chiropractic is designed to temporarily fix the issue and does not address the hidden cause of your conditions. Many patients will still elect to receive this type of temporary relief care. There are many traditional chiropractors in the area that can address your conditions with that approach and we can refer you to their offices.

Those who have gotten sick of “duct-taping” their condition will often find themselves in a Structural Chiropractor’s office. That is because the goals at Specific Chiropractic go beyond simple temporary relief or pain management and instead focus on Structural Correction.

Structural Correction is an all-inclusive plan of care that is designed to get at the true cause of the problem by improving AND correcting the underlying condition. In our office the underlying condition is a Structural Shift that leads to your Secondary Conditions.

What would happen if the foundation of your house shifted? What visual changes would you see on the inside of your home indicating a foundation/structural change? (to be discussed later)

Structural Chiropractors use up-to-date objective tools to determine whether a Structural Shift has occurred and how severe it is. This provides the basis for our comprehensive plan of care that doesn’t just stop when you leave our office. By focusing on Structural Correction, we are best equipped to determine when a Structural Shift is present and what the best course of treatment is to correct it and resolve your Secondary Conditions.

What Is A Structural Shift?

1411992001

There are well known normals for many functions within our body. Some examples are: blood pressure, eyesight, heart rate and cholesterol. Without knowing the normal body temperature, how would you determine if you have a fever? Without knowing what normal tire pressure is, how would we know when our tire is under-inflated? In order to determine if something is abnormal, we must first establish what normal is.

We don’t expect anyone to be absolutely flawless, however, your body’s foundation (the spine) also has an established normal. When your spine has shifted outside of the accepted range, it is an indicator of a Structural Shift.

Normal structure is NOT an option! It is a requirement for proper function.

These Struc1411992038tural Shifts create a fragile foundation that eventually results in Secondary Conditions.

Think of your spine as the foundation of a building. ┬áIf the foundation shifts, what WOULD happen to the rest of the building? Cracks in the walls and foundation, creaky floors, and windows that are hard to open would be pretty good guesses. We could conceal these “symptoms” by continually covering the cracks, putting more screws in the floor, or applying lubrication in the window rails, however, the structure of the building is STILL in a shifted state and these conditions WILL continue to occur. . . .again and again.

When these Secondary Conditions arise (cracks in the wall, creaky floor — neck pain, digestive complications, migraines), they are usually an obvious sign that a Structural Shift has interrupted the signal that travels along the spinal nerves and spinal cord. The locations of your Structural Shifts will be revealed in our Structural Examination and will give us an understanding of your Secondary Conditions.

What Are Secondary Conditions?

Secondary Conditions, as the term alludes, are an outcome of the primary condition. In our office, the primary condition is a Structural Shift that, if present, causes issues in your vertebrae, discs, ligaments, spinal cord and spinal nerves. Your Secondary Conditions are the noticeable signs that something detrimental is happening inside your body.

Secondary Conditions may include one or many of the following:

  • Arm Pain (upper & lower)
  • Asymmetry (ex. high shoulder)
  • Bone Spurs
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Cervical Canal Stenosis
  • Chronic Headaches
  • Chronic Migraines
  • Decreased Range Of Motion
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Digestive Conditions (GERD, constipation)
  • Disc Herniation
  • Dizziness
  • Dowager’s Hump (“Granny Hump”)
  • Fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Hearing Difficulties
  • Low Back Pain
  • Migraine
  • Muscle Spasm
  • Neck Pain
  • Numbness & Tingling
  • Nerve Impingement Syndrome (pinched nerve)
  • Poor Posture
  • Sciatica
  • Shoulder and Rotator Cuff Pain
  • Sinus Infections
  • Spinal Decay and Arthritis
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Strength-related Issues (ex. decreased grip strength)
  • TMD (Temporal-Mandibular Disorder) and TMJ problems
  • Tinnitus
  • Vertigo and Balance Issues
  • Weak Immune System
  • Etc.
What Are My Treatment Options?

We recognize that you are likely wondering what treatment options are available for your conditions. We are not trying to speak on behalf of other chiropractors or healthcare providers but wish to contribute objective information to assist you in making an educated decision.

Massage therapy is usually the first stop for people with Secondary Conditions. Massage therapy will typically try to work on the muscles by trying to reduce spasm and “knots”. This usually does a good job of providing temporary relief and feels good.

With traditional chiropractic care, you will receive spinal adjustments and other physiotherapies that will attempt to temporarily increase range of motion, alleviate muscle spasm, and temporarily decrease pain. In the past, this type of treatment has benefited many patients.

The traditional medical approach concentrates on reducing your “symptoms”, or what we call Secondary Conditions, and medical doctors do a great job with this. Unfortunately, if your “symptoms” do not change, you may be referred to physical therapy to strengthen muscles, improve your range of motion, alleviate muscle spasms, reduce swelling, etc. If your symptoms persist, it is likely that you are on the path to continuous pain medication, muscle relaxers, and injections to temporarily relieve your symptoms. When medications and injections are no longer effective, the next step is likely an invasive procedure, like spinal surgery.

The previous treatment options can be necessary given the correct circumstances. Even so, if your “symptoms” (Secondary Conditions) are caused by a Structural Shift, then you are better served by an office that focuses on Structural Correction to alleviate your Secondary Conditions.

No matter which option you end up choosing for treatment, we want you to know that we will always give you objective health information. We wish for you to be as healthy as possible, and it is critical that you view us as an unbiased asset, whether you are a patient or not. Please call our office at 507-320-1555 with any questions you may have or to schedule a complimentary consultation.

Can Specific Chiropractic Help?

1411992166After your complimentary consultation, you can choose to have a Structural Examination immediately or choose a later date at your convenience. This examination will determine the severity of your Structural Shifts, if any are found. These shifts are likely causing your Secondary Conditions and are creating a weak structure which compromises nervous system function.

Our examination allows us to make a rational conclusion on how much time it will take to improve or correct your structural shifts. We will then provide a complete plan of care that is tailored to your individual situation.

Progress examinations will be performed to ensure that your structure is changing with our care and will show the improvement in your spine.

If we feel that we will not be able to help you (normal structure is present), we have developed a great network of other healthcare providers where we can refer you to make sure your conditions are taken care of by the best suited professional.

With our focus on Structural Correction, our office is NOT for everybody. Our intent is to correct the cause of a patient’s complaints and not just adjust them to temporarily relieve their Secondary Conditions. Our patients are committed to their health goals and we aim to correct their Structural Shifts, which are the underlying causes of their complaints.

How Do I Work With Specific Chiropractic?

Most of our patients are referred to us by other healthcare professionals and current patients. Working with us is very easy.

1. Call to set up your complimentary consultation with the doctor.

This step requires NO commitment for an examination or care.

2. After the consultation, you can choose to move forward with an examination right then or select another time that works for you. The choice is yours.

After the examination, you are able to continue with your day while your examination results are being assessed by the doctor.

3. Set up your conference with the doctor.

This is to ensure that you are in the right office for your condition BEFORE you make the commitment to care.

We will NOT twist your arm or offer you part of a timeshare to become a patient at Specific Chiropractic. We wish for you to achieve your health goals and are serious about the value of our care.

Please don’t hesitate to call our office for answers to any questions you may think of. If, for any reason, you are not ready to start care, we will not hound you to become a patient. You know where we can be found when you are ready and we will be happy to serve you.

What You Should Know Before The Exam

The examination is always done by the doctor and is extensive, so please schedule to be at our office for approximately 60 minutes (includes consultation). Please wear comfortable clothes and ones that do NOT contain metal (workout type clothes are great).

Our Structural Examination consists of:

1. Digital Structural Radiographs

2. 3D Structural Analysis

3. Digital Structural Analysis

4. Orthopedic and Neurological Testing

These procedures allow us to see if any Structural Shifts are present. They will also show the state of your structure and will provide the required data on the underlying cause of your condition. The doctor will then assess the data from your examination. Once the doctor has completed his assessment, a personal recommendation conference will be scheduled either later the same day or at some other time, whichever fits in your schedule.

At your conference, the doctor will review your structural shifts, explain care recommendations, and administer your first specific, structural adjustment. The price of your examination will cover all of this.
